AFK Arena is an idle RPG and hero collector set in the fantasy world of Esperia, in which the player assembles a team of five heroes from five distinct factions — Lightbearer, Mauler, Wilder, Graveborn and the rarer Celestial and Hypogean classes — and progresses through an auto-battle campaign while collecting resources in the background. The core loop is built around idle mechanics: heroes fight and accumulate loot automatically, allowing meaningful progression without constant active play. The faction and formation system adds strategic depth: faction bonuses reward single-faction teams, and hero positioning and synergies affect auto-battle outcomes. Content includes a main campaign, the King's Tower vertical climb, Voyage of Wonders exploration maps with puzzle encounters, and Guild Hunt cooperative boss raids. Regular crossover events have brought characters from Overlord, Sword Art Online and other franchises as limited-time heroes. A direct sequel, AFK Journey, was released in 2024 with a fully realised open world.
