A mysterious substance called Stardust fell from the sky and reshaped the world. Most of humanity is gone. The survivors — the Metas — have been transformed by the Stardust and gained powers that blur the line between human and something else entirely. The wasteland they inhabit is haunted by eldritch beings called Deviants, cosmic horrors that have overrun cities, forests and ruins across a shattered Earth.

Once Human is a free-to-play open-world multiplayer survival game set in a post-apocalyptic world fused with cosmic horror aesthetics. Players explore a large hand-crafted map, loot and craft weapons, build and defend bases, and hunt Deviant bosses whose defeated forms grant craftable gear and abilities. The Deviant system allows players to equip and level up captured Deviants as active combat companions. PvE and PvP servers run separately. The game operates on a seasonal model — each season lasts approximately six weeks, resetting character progression and focusing on a themed narrative scenario. Cosmetics, some Deviants and certain unlocks carry forward between seasons.
