The Bloom — a galaxy-spanning plague spread by the forces of Nurgle, god of pestilence — is spreading through space, rotting worlds into lifeless husks. The Grey Knights, the Imperium's most secret and most lethal weapon, are dispatched to stop it. They are psychic Space Marines, created by the Emperor himself, whose very existence is classified above the highest clearance. They operate from the strike cruiser Baleful Edict, moving through the Warp to intercept the Bloom's spread before it reaches a tipping point no force can reverse.

Warhammer 40,000: Chaos Gate – Daemonhunters is a turn-based tactical RPG in the tradition of XCOM, set in one of the most atmospheric corners of the 41st millennium. Each Grey Knight is a named, customisable warrior who levels up across four specialisations — Justicar, Purgator, Interceptor and Apothecary — and can be permanently lost if they fall in battle. The Baleful Edict serves as the strategic layer: manage tech, research, crew characters and choose which missions to accept as a galaxy-wide plague timer escalates. Missions take place across procedurally selected maps of Nurgle-corrupted environments — churches, hive cities, space hulks — with satisfying movement, cover and ability systems. The Warp mechanics layer chaos unpredictability over every encounter. The campaign narrative was written by Aaron Dembski-Bowden, one of Black Library's most celebrated authors.
