Astro's Playroom

Astro's Playroom comes installed on every PlayStation 5 and serves as the console's interactive introduction to its own hardware. Four worlds, each named after a PS5 component, use every feature of the DualSense controller in ways specifically designed to demonstrate what it can do. The SSD loads instantly. The haptics feel different on every surface. The adaptive triggers resist differently on every action. The game exists to make all of this felt rather than explained.

Astro's Playroom is a 3D platformer and PS5 system showcase in which Team Asobi built four worlds — SSD Speedway, Memory Meadow, CPU Plaza and Cooling Springs — each themed around a component of the PS5 and constructed around the DualSense controller's haptic feedback and adaptive trigger features. Every surface Astro runs across sends a different texture through the controller. Rain, snow, sand and water each have their own haptic signature. Adaptive triggers resist differently when Astro pulls a bowstring, charges a spring or grips a vine. The game is simultaneously a love letter to PlayStation history: hundreds of characters and artefacts from thirty years of PlayStation hardware and games are hidden across the worlds as collectibles and environmental detail, culminating in a final boss encounter that functions as a full-scale celebration of the platform's legacy. The game runs at 60fps in 4K and takes approximately three to five hours to complete. Its sequel, Astro Bot, won Game of the Year 2024.

Key Features: • DualSense showcase: every surface, weather effect and action has a distinct haptic texture • Adaptive triggers: resistance varies with bowstrings, springs, vines and terrain in every world • Four worlds themed around PS5 components: SSD Speedway, Memory Meadow, CPU Plaza, Cooling Springs • PlayStation history: hundreds of cameos from 30 years of PlayStation hardware and games as hidden collectibles
