Dreams is two things simultaneously: a platform for playing millions of community-created games, experiences and interactive art, and a complete game creation suite that lets anyone build their own. The two halves are inseparable — everything playable was made using the same tools available to every player.

Dreams is a game creation system for PlayStation 4 in which players use an "imp" cursor to sculpt, paint, animate, compose music, build logic and construct playable experiences from scratch, sharing everything they make with a community of millions. The creation tools cover 3D modelling, terrain sculpting, character rigging, animation, sound design, music composition and visual scripting without code — all within a single unified environment. The community library holds millions of creations spanning every conceivable genre: platformers, horror games, racing games, interactive films, animated shorts and fully realised game demakes. An included narrative mode called Art's Dream provides a structured first-person introduction to the world across several hours of original content. PS VR support adds a three-dimensional creation and play mode. The platform transitioned to a self-sustaining model in 2024 after Media Molecule ended live curation support, with discovery now handled by automated systems and community tags.
