There is no objective in VRChat. There is no story, no progression, no end state. There is an avatar you chose or built, a world someone made, and other people. What happens next is entirely social.

VRChat is an online social platform built around user-generated content and presence — the sense of occupying a space with other people through avatars that can gesture, speak, express and move. The platform hosts hundreds of thousands of community-created worlds spanning every conceivable genre and aesthetic: concert venues, escape rooms, comedy clubs, photorealistic natural landscapes, surreal abstract spaces, competitive game arenas and intimate meeting rooms. Avatars range from photorealistic humans to elaborate fantasy creatures to physics-defying abstract sculptures with reactive audio-visual effects. Any user can build and upload both worlds and avatars using the VRChat SDK on top of Unity. VR headsets are supported and encouraged, but the entire platform is fully playable in desktop mode without any VR equipment. Full-body tracking via SteamVR Trackers, Vive Trackers and similar hardware adds physical presence for those who invest in it. VRC+ is an optional subscription adding cosmetic perks, extra avatar slots and features. The platform runs on PC, Meta Quest, PICO 4, iOS and Android. It has been in Steam Early Access since 2017 and continues to receive regular updates.
