Forspoken is an open-world action RPG developed by Luminous Productions — a Square Enix subsidiary assembled from the core team behind Final Fantasy XV — and the studio's debut and only game before being merged back into Square Enix in May 2023 following what Square Enix president Yosuke Matsuda described as "lacklustre" sales. You play as Frey Holland, a young woman from New York City who is mysteriously transported to the fantasy world of Athia — a once-beautiful realm now corrupted by a magical affliction called the Break — and must survive, grow powerful and find a way home while confronting the Tantas, four tyrannical rulers who have been driven to madness by the Break.
