The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom is an open-world action-adventure game developed by Nintendo EPD and the direct sequel to The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild (2017) — one of the most acclaimed and widely-played games of its generation. Set a few years after the events of Breath of the Wild, the ancient Hyrule beneath Hyrule Castle is disturbed and a malevolent force called the Gloom begins spreading across the kingdom. Princess Zelda disappears. Sky Islands — vast ancient ruins suspended above the familiar landscape of Hyrule — become accessible. A dark Depths region opens beneath the surface.
