Wordle

One word. Five letters. Six attempts. Green means the right letter in the right place. Yellow means the right letter in the wrong place. Grey means the letter is not in the word at all. Everyone in the world is playing the same puzzle. There is only one per day.

Wordle is a daily word puzzle game in which the player guesses a secret five-letter word within six attempts using colour-coded tile feedback. Each guess must be a valid five-letter word. After each guess, tiles turn green for correct letters in the correct position, yellow for correct letters in the wrong position, and grey for letters not present in the word. The puzzle resets every day at midnight with a new word, shared globally. A streak counter tracks consecutive daily completions. Hard Mode requires that revealed hints must be used in subsequent guesses. The share button generates a spoiler-free pattern of coloured squares that can be pasted into messages and social posts, a feature that drove the game's viral spread in late 2021. Wordle was created by software engineer Josh Wardle as a gift for his partner and launched publicly in October 2021, reaching millions of daily players within weeks. The New York Times acquired it in January 2022 and integrated it into their NYT Games subscription platform, while keeping the core puzzle free to play.

Key Features: • Daily 5-letter word puzzle with six attempts and green/yellow/grey tile feedback • One puzzle per day shared globally - streak counter tracking consecutive daily completions • Hard Mode requiring revealed hints to be used in all subsequent guesses • Spoiler-free share button generating the iconic coloured square result pattern
