Mordhau

The sword has a direction. The parry has a window. The feint is the question you ask before the real attack. Mordhau is a game built entirely around the depth of that exchange.

Mordhau is a medieval melee multiplayer game in which combat is driven by a directional slash system where attacks can be aimed at eight angles, parried with timing and deflected with direction. The depth comes from the interaction between these systems: a drag attack manipulates the timing of the sword arc to hit after the parry window closes; a feint starts one attack and cancels into a different one to bait the wrong response; a morph transitions mid-swing from a strike to a thrust to create an unreactable mixup. Mastering these tools against opponents who have also mastered them is the game's core loop. Frontline mode puts up to 64 players across two teams in large-scale battles combining melee fighters, archers and cavalry on horseback. Skirmish and Duel modes provide smaller, more focused competitive formats. The character creator assembles armour and cosmetics piece by piece across head, chest, arms and legs with historical medieval equipment. Steam Workshop supports maps, modes and cosmetic mods. The game was funded through a Kickstarter in 2017 by a small Slovenian indie team.
