Humanity is extinct. Mutants and monsters now roam the irradiated ruins of the world. A ragged band of survivors has heard a legend: somewhere, at the end of everything, sits the Nuclear Throne. Whoever reaches it rules the wasteland. Nobody has reached it yet. Many have tried.

Nuclear Throne is a top-down shooter roguelite with bullet hell elements, built around speed, chaos and the constant accumulation of radiation. Killing enemies drops radiation that levels the character up, each level offering a choice of three mutations that stack into increasingly unhinged combinations. Twelve playable characters each bring a unique active ability and starting stat spread: Fish can roll through bullets, Plant grows defensive thorns, Crystal encases itself in rock, Horror fires its own HP as projectiles. Weapons are found on the floor and range from shotguns and flamethrowers to laser rifles and teleporting portal guns. Every room is a small arena that must be cleared before the exit opens. Runs last minutes. Deaths are instant and frequent. The feel of the game is pure Vlambeer: percussive, tactile and deeply satisfying in a way that is almost impossible to articulate. Began as a 48-hour game jam project called Wasteland Kings, created by Jan Willem Nijman and Rami Ismail at an event hosted by Notch. Local co-op supports two players.
