James Sunderland's wife Mary died of an illness three years ago. Then he receives a letter in her handwriting saying she is waiting for him in Silent Hill — the town where they spent their happiest days together. James drives there. The town is abandoned, wrapped in fog, and populated by creatures that seem to embody something other than biology.
